Fantaneanu wins Gold

BUCHAREST, Romania, march 30, 2007 – AIPS Executive Member Emanuel Fantaneanu has been honored with Romania’s Golden Medal of the Order of Journalists.
Romania’s leading media association, the Professional Press Union (UZP) which represents more than 4,000 members of all branches of the Romanian press, not only from the sports arena honored Mr Fantaneanu at a special ceremony in Bucharest.
The honor is very important for sports journalists the world over as it recognizes a sports specialist. Emanuel Fantaneanu was president of the National Sports Press Association Romania for 12 years. The award recognizes his long and important contribution to the development of the Romanian press and his strong affiliation with the international press.
In presenting the award President of the Professional Press Union (UZP), Prof. Dr. Mihai Miron said: “We have great pleasure in honoring a sports journalist for the very first time. The sports press in Romania is very important and most influential in the Romanian society. Sports journalists need a strong character and resistance to carry out their vocation.
“There are many great journalists in sports – both young and old. We are very happy for this, and we are very happy to recognize this by honoring our colleague Emanuel Fantaneanu. This Golden Medal is not only a testament to his 40-year contribution to the sport press but for his role in the development of the Romanian press”.
Other awards were presented to journalists from the cultural and political media, written press, radio and television.
